The Best Gardening Tools

When we moved to Virginia from Florida in 2018 I dreamed of a big garden. It took us 2 years after moving into our current house to make a plan for our garden since we knew we had a high amount of deer going through our yard daily and planting vegetables without protection would be totally pointless. Neither Andrew or I are very great with DIY so we went with a kit that we simply had to assemble.

Our garden bed is a u-shaped 8×12 raised garden bed with deer fencing. This kit was mostly easy to assemble. It took Andrew and a friend the morning to put it together.  From there we also carved out a 4 foot pollinator garden on the outside of the vegetable bed for flowers. We have added on extra arches and grow bags along the outside so that we have even more vertical space for growing vegetables.

Each season we grow tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, greens,  herbs, eggplant, peppers, and carrots. Its amazing how much you can grow when you ignore traditional spacing and just cram everything in!

Our favorite garden items are all linked here. We have focused on sustainable items we can use each season. In 2023, we added in ground worm bins for composting directly in the ground. This was a super inexpensive project that has worked so well!

I am starting my seeds for the 2024 growing season this week and I can’t wait to share my step by step set up!
